This website is run by West Lancashire Borough Council on behalf of the Ormskirk Town Centre Management Group. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website, so they can discover what Ormskirk and West Lancashire can offer as a visitor destination.

Forms

Our forms are built and hosted through third party software and ‘skinned’ to look like our website. We are reviewing our forms to try improve the accessibility or will look for accessible alternatives.

Videos

The accessibility of embedded video content is dependent on the standards reached by the third-party provider. Where possible we will make use of features such as subtitles to ensure our content is accessible.

Interactive tools and transactions

Some of the elements surrounding our events aren’t fully accessible

• The heading tags aren’t in the best programmatic order
• The form to submit an event (for registered contributors) aren’t full accessible.

The event content is built into our website using third party plugin (software) and adapts to look like our website.

We’ve assessed the cost of fixing the issues with the events calendar, and have looked at alternate options, non however can guarantee their accessibility compliance at present. The provider used claims they are working on making the plugin more accessible. Therefore we believe that a custom build of an Event Calendar functionality would be a disproportionate burden within the meaning of the accessibility regulations. We will continue our discussion with the provider, and look to make another assessment, likely to be in 12 months time.

Live video

We do not plan to add captions to live video streams because live video is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations.

Maps

Maps that are present on our website and are not used for navigational purposes are exempt under the regulations. We use several maps to show attractions, leisure walks or other geographical information.

PDF’s

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.

We are always open to suggestions, additions or the reporting of accessibility problems.

We made the following improvements in September 2020

• Rebuilt the site in it’s entirety, using a WordPress theme that advises it follows the WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility guidelines

• Added a ‘skip to main content’ function

• Reviewed the ability for users to zoom in, and the response to different devices

• Adapted our whole brand’s colour pallet to improve the colour contrast ratio across all communication

• Added an ‘underline on focus or hover’ to hyperlinked texts

• Reviewed labels and attributes to ensure compatibility with assistive technologies

• Uploaded and added alt tags to all non-decorative imagery

This website was last tested on 16th September 2020. The test was carried internally by the Discover Ormskirk team.

We checked a broad sample of pages on the website, including the homepage and a selection of other pages. We used a free-to-use developer tool which checks each page against standard accessibility issues. A manual audit was also conducted.
