Mere Sands Wood
Mere Sands Wood, run by the Lancashire Wildlife Trust, is a wildlife-rich nature reserve in the heart of West Lancashire.
Designed to encourage wildlife and provide facilities for people to visit and enjoy seeing it. Mere Sands Wood is nationally important for wildfowl and dragonflies, as well as being home to 200 species of fungi and 170 bird species. Seventeen mammals habit the area include the Water Vole, other spectacular wildlife includes Mandarin Ducks, Kingfishers and woodpeckers.
Mere Sands geology is also internationally important with specific layers having remained almost undisturbed since the last Ice Age, these help the understanding of changes that occurred to the Lancashire coastline since this time.
