Ormskirk’s summer events are in full swing with music, art, delicious gingerbread and fabulous cars all making an appearance in Ormskirk Town Centre this summer! Following the recent Love Your Local Market celebrations which were a great success we’re looking forward to the wonderful atmosphere these events bring to our lovely town.
Visitors can find so much to enjoy in Ormskirk so people who haven’t visited recently really should come and take a look. Our large number of independent shops and restaurants, are complemented by Ormskirk Market every Thursday and Saturday and there are so many cafes, restaurants, pubs and bars to relax in too.
Art lovers won’t want to miss the fabulous Lancashire Open Exhibition at Ormskirk’s Chapel Gallery from Saturday 22 July to Wednesday 6 September. This vibrant exhibition is a superb collection of art by accomplished artists from across the UK. More than 150 artworks will be on display at the event from a wide range of artistic media making it a definite highlight in the region’s arts calendar.
The annual Ormskirk Gingerbread Festival comes to town on Saturday 29 July, 10am to 4pm, with a huge range of fun attractions for all the family.
Children can enter the gingerbread competition with prizes donated by local shops and businesses. There will also be vintage games for them to play. The whole family can enjoy wonderful live music as well as the Burscough Street Disco and Fairground organ. Circus entertainers will also be performing around the Town Centre.
If you’re into history you may want to take some time to visit OCP and local historian Gerard Swarbrick. They will be featuring photographs and maps of Ormskirk from different eras. Ormskirk and District Family History Group will also be attending and can advise people on tracing family history. The heritage theme continues with tours of Ormskirk Parish Church at set times.
Don’t rush off on July 29th!
Food lovers will want to stick around and have their tastebuds tickled at the first Moor Street Night Market that follows. On from 6.30pm-9.30pm local food and drink establishments will be setting up on the streets. Serving mouth-watering food as well as cocktails, craft beers and artisan gin. Other interesting street food specialities from further afield will also be visiting the town, alongside more live music and street entertainment. Entry to the market is free so it’s definitely worthwhile staying to enjoy.
Music fans are in for a real treat at the Summer Music Festival in Coronation Park. There will be concerts on at the park bandstand every Saturday and Sunday from Saturday 29 July to Saturday 26 August.
Sunday 27 August sees huge crowds flock to Ormskirk for the marvellous MotorFest. This annual motoring extravaganza is one of the biggest free family events in the North West. Thousands of people are expected. Come and admire more than 300 cars and motorcycles on display from a range of eras of motoring, and enjoy fun activities throughout the day.
