A stunning display of over 1,000 handmade crochet sunflowers is now cascading down the front of The Civic in Ormskirk, creating a vibrant public art installation to celebrate the upcoming production of Calendar Girls the Musical.
The large‑scale sunflower artwork is part of a community-wide creative project led by Pleasure Folk AMS, who are proudly celebrating their 55th anniversary in 2026. Residents from across the local area contributed individually crafted sunflowers — each representing hope, resilience, and togetherness.
A Town‑Wide Project Supporting Cancer Research UK
Inspired by the iconic imagery from Calendar Girls the Musical, the project was designed to bring the community together while supporting a meaningful cause. Alongside the show, Pleasure Folk AMS has produced a special Calendar Girls–themed charity calendar, featuring members of the society.
All proceeds raised will go directly to Cancer Research UK.
“The response has been incredible,” said Director Gemma Briscoe.
“From first-time crocheters to experienced crafters, people have come together to create something truly special for the whole community to enjoy.”

The sunflower artwork will remain in place throughout the entire run of the show, offering visitors a bright, uplifting and Instagram‑ready moment the moment they arrive at the venue.
