This year the Christmas lights switch on event has been moved from its Friday evening slot of previous years to a Sunday so even more people can join in the fun and discover Ormskirk for the day.
Edge Hill University’s circus performers will be providing walk-about entertainment, showcasing their fantastic circus skills. The amazing Glacial Art Ice Sculptures will be showing off their expertise with a live ice carving of a gingerbread man as a main highlight of the day.
Children’s entertainment will be provided throughout by well known and loved children’s entertainer Mr Stix and a wonderful gingerbread themed workshop will be run by Magical Story Jars. Children’s characters Mickey, Minnie and Spiderman will also be in town meeting and greeting everyone and Silcocks amusements will providing children’s rides in Aughton Street.
For the adults who attend, indulge in some shopping at fabulous stalls selling gingerbread-themed products, delicious food and gifts, not to mention all the wonderful independent shops already open in the town. Stumble across some hidden gems on the Gingerbread Trail (download a pdf here, 2MB or look out for a copy on the day), for all the family, around the town.
On the main stage in Moor Street, entertainment will include performances by popular local dance and drama school Base Dance, the amazing ‘Ormskirk Rock Choir’ who will wow the crowds with favourite well known songs.
The marvellous compere Andy Jay will bring on the party atmosphere by introducing the well acclaimed Tom Jones tribute act Tony Scarth, a former Stars in your eyes contestant who will capture the power and charisma of the man himself.
This will lead up to the traditional Carol Service at 4.30 p.m, followed by the Christmas Light Switch On at 5pm.
