Green Tourism UK are giving up to 100 West Lancashire-based businesses the opportunity to achieve the internationally recognised Green Tourism Standard.

Fully funded for 1 year by West Lancashire Borough Council, the initiative aims to support businesses to achieve sustainable growth, reduce energy usage, save money, and receive a sustainable accreditation.

Securing the Green Tourism Standard, the largest and most established sustainable certification programme in the world, will help attract new business from consumers and clients who are increasingly seeking out destinations and businesses with strong sustainable and ethical credentials

How?

Green Tourism is a world leading sustainability certification programme, with 2,500 certified tourism businesses in 22 countries. Each partner business is given access to a fully interactive assessment dashboard with bespoke report practical advice and tailor-made advice from technical experts.

Based on three pillars of caring for People, Places and our Planet, the Green Tourism criteria cover 70+ indicators across 15 sustainability goals including Carbon, Waste, Water, Biodiversity, Local Produce and Products, Ethical Purchasing, Health & Wellbeing, Equality and Inclusivity, Culture and Heritage, Active Travel and Community Giving.

Benefits

By joining Green Tourism and gaining an award (complete with logo to use in marketing, plaque and certificate for display), your business is immediately at an advantage, with a certified grading that sets it apart from those without any accredited green credentials. (As well as a unique listing on Discover Ormskirk!)

By earning and displaying Green Tourism awards you are showing the world that your business takes environmental considerations seriously and is taking practical steps to tackle issues such as energy efficiency, water saving and mindful waste reduction.  The awards represent recognised third-party verification and as such are a valuable hallmark of green achievement.

Businesses located and trading in West Lancashire which operate in the Accommodation, Hospitality, Leisure or Retail sectors

Cost

There is nothing to pay for the first year for the first 100 businesses to sign up before 31st March 2023 – the only commitment needed from you and your business is time!

Successful partner businesses will also benefit from preferential annual fees in years 2 & 3, if they choose to continue after year 1

Introducing Green Tourism Webinar

The scheme launched with a ‘Welcome to Green Tourism’ webinar on the 15th June at 10am. The webinar will give a step-by-step account of how the scheme operates, and detail the support on offer to businesses, to help them succeed and become accredited.
