We were delighted to see Ormskirk’s Moor Hall retain it’s title as the No 1 restaurant in the UK for the second year running.
The National Restaurant Awards were held on Monday 16th August 2021, and as well as Moor Hall making the top spot yet again, we were delighted to see other restaurants in the North West also taking a number of the tops spots.
The Estrella Damm National Restaurant Awards are judged by more than 200 experts including food writers, chefs and restaurateurs. Judges vote for the top seven restaurants they have dined at in the last 12 months in order of preference, resulting in the final Top 100.
This recent award, along with Moor Halls 2nd Michelin star, continues to demonstrate how passionate the team are. No trip to the North West would be complete without experiencing this wonderful venue, especially for those passionate about their food. For those whose bank balance may not stretch, sister restaurant The Barn still uses a range of the same fabulous produce, and the same stunning surroundings, making sure to delight.

“To get it a second time feels amazing. The first time we were buzzing, but it feels like an even bigger thing to retain, especially given the challenges of the last 18 months. I cleared all the awards off the shelf when we reopened after the most recent lockdown as it felt like it was time to start again. I’m very proud to now have the award back on the shelf. The staff were all beaming going into our first service earlier this week.”

Moor Hall is a stunning grade II listed gentry house of mid-sixteenth century origin first recorded in 1282. Peter Stanley of Bickerstaffe built the current manor house in 1533, in over five acres of breath-taking grounds. This included formal gardens and growing land with a beautiful lake, said to be the remains of a medieval moat.
Owners Andy and Tracey Bell have together undertaken a multi-million pound renovation, taking West Lancashire’s Moor Hall back to its historic origin. Partner Mark Birchall takes the lead as chef patron.
