Ormskirk has been commended for its delicious culinary cuisine in a recent BBC article, which stated that the historic town is “fast becoming the UK’s most delicious destination”!
Home to an abundance of delicious restaurants and cafes, Ormskirk also boasts 3 locations who hold Michelin Stars, all within 10 minutes of each other. The restaurants have been attracting visitors from across the globe, from Finland to Singapore!
Moor Hall has gained three Michelin Stars, a Michelin Green Star and five AA Rosettes. It has received the ‘Restaurant of the Year’ Award at the Estrella Damm National Restaurant Awards in 2021, as well as ‘Best Restaurant in England’ in both 2022 and 2023. On top of this, Moor Hall was ranked third best restaurant in the country in 2024. All of the awards were issued under the expertise of Chef Patron Mark Birchall. The Barn at Moor Hall also boasts a Michelin Star.
Additionally, SŌ-LŌ in Aughton recently retained its Michelin Star, which it was first awarded in 2023. SŌ-LŌ opened its doors in November 2021, and is Chef Patron Tim Allen’s first solo venture following his work in various other Michelin-starred restaurants across England. This will be Tim’s fourth Michelin Star in his career, and he has been featured in all major food guides for Top 50 Gastropubs and Top 100 Restaurants, and was also a competitor on the BBC’s Great British Menu.
On top of noting these fantastic Michelin Star destinations, the article also celebrates Ormskirk’s historic market and its famous gingerbread, locally produced by Mr Thompson’s Bakery; a family-run business who recently appeared on an episode of BBC TV’s The Hairy Bikers Go West.
